Visible changes in the work environment
Empower employees with serious games
- Long-term behavioural change
- In-depth learning in a short time
- Motivated and engaged employees

“Oh right, what did we agree upon then?”
Employees want and need to keep developing. Lifelong learning is a fact of life in today’s corporate culture. Yet you keep seeing fixed patterns and processes in daily work practices. With all this focus on learning and development, how come we don’t see concrete changes in the workplace?
You offer a training course that gives employees more guidance on a new way of working. In the training, you see some people sitting on their phones and not participating. Fortunately, most of the group is enthusiastic. ‘That was a really fun afternoon!’ Two weeks later, however, you don’t see any difference: people still have their old ways of working.
My serious games ensure in-depth learning and provide tools for practical application in the employees’ daily work practices. It connects to employees’ perceptions and needs, making them understand the added value and motivating them to apply what they have learned in their work. This practical application and intrinsic motivation creates long-term behavioural change.

3 x R
- Relevance: Each game is tailor-made for your organisation and employees. Together, this ensures that the game matches the interests and learning needs of employees. If employees see the relevance, a behavioural change will actually take place.
- Reflection: the game is part of a complete learning solution. After playing a game, there is a need for deeper reflection. A reflection on what happened in the game and how this translates to the employees’ daily work.
- Role: Every participant is a player in the game. Each player can influence the course of the game with individual choices and decisions. This creates more involvement and autonomy among employees: everyone plays along. As a result, you work on change together.
Who am I

I am Marloes Berkers, founder of Thrivelop. I am a serious game developer with a background in educational sciences. This combination ensures that I create engaging games, while keeping the focus on the learning impact.
Games and learning content are intertwined, so the actions you perform in the game match what you need to learn. You become immersed in a real game experience, leading to in-depth discussions, insights and cooperation.
With enthusiasm, I guide you from start to finish to arrive at a suitable solution. Together, we ensure that these games deliver impactful behavioural change in the work environment.
Why a game?
- Motivation: a game brings excitement, competition and fun. This makes you feel curious and excited to get started.
- Safe practice environment: a game provides a safe situation in which you can try out different scenarios.
- Simple and clear: a game can help make complex topics understandable and simplify them.
- Break habits: a game takes you out of your own context. This creates a more open mind and leads to new insights.
Who came before you?

“After talking to several parties, I chose Marloes because she listened to me best and translated my wishes into good and concrete learning objectives. She came up with a nice coherent game that fits well with the different themes. The first reactions have been very positive. During the process, she kept me well-informed and involved the different people involved in a good way. She was open to feedback and was enthusiastic. All in all, a nice collaboration.”
“From the moment I delved into the game, I was immediately drawn in by its accessibility and simplicity, making it effortless to dive into the gameplay and start reaping its benefits.
One of the most remarkable aspects of the game is its efficacy in increasing self-awareness and empowering players to leverage their strengths while understanding their stress points.

Frequently asked questions
The development of a serious game is done in collaboration with you. You know best about the organisation, the employees and what is going on. For instance, I will ask you to give feedback on deliverables and to help me gain insight into the content and practical issues surrounding the problems you are facing.
Most games last 1 to 2 hours. This often consists of a combination of game time and a deeper reflection in which translations are made to the participants’ daily work.
Usually yes, some games are specially designed so they are replayable. For other games, it is not always necessary. It depends on what needs to be learnt, so we always check first whether this suits your needs.
This depends on the learning question and the context and constraints of the organisation. For example, sometimes it can work better to physically sit around the table in a collaboration game, but sometimes the game content is so complex that a digital game works better. If all colleagues work remotely, a digital game is usually the best option. The format of the game should support the objectives, which is why we start with the learning question and then look at which format fits best.
Definitely! Games that are ready to use can be adapted to your brand identity. A custom-made game is (almost) always made in your brand identity. Sometimes we choose a different style, if this better suits the theme or story of the game and the learning outcome. But even then, we look at how it fits within the style of your organisation. This is all done in consultation.
